Fabulous Jewel Tone Handbag Bonanza! As promised, here are photos of catalog pages from the General Crafts Corp. Jewel Tone kit purses of the late 1960s. For more detailed information about these handbags, please see my post of June 1, 2007.

I don’t have every one, but I do have a bunch—in the neighborhood of twenty-five (I'm so ashamed!)—including some duplicates (extra shameful!). The first six photos are of the fold-out catalog pages. The seventh photo is of a single-page insert that says the purses are now available in black. The eighth picture is a make-by-number pattern of their peacock model, and the last is the finished product, which I'd be too lame to do myself, but thank goodness there are crafty people out there!

As I may have mentioned before, I sort of have a thing for these bags, especially the peacock. I have only the butterfly design, but I'm always looking for more. Thanks for sharing!

I know it's ridiculous, but when I see one of these purses, my mouth waters--especially when it's an unusual one. Right now, I'm looking for the casino-themed bag. I've seen it on eBay twice, but I missed out on it the first time. The second time, the woman was selling it for A HUNDRED BUCKS, which is totally against my self-inflicted rule o' cheapness.

OK, this is going to sound sick... but I have two pagodas, one in black and one in cream. I know. I just hate myself.

Hey Wendy, I hope you don't mind a little self-promotion but I'm losing my home and am unloading a bunch of things to try to save the day. As a result, I have the Fabulous Jewel Tone Peacock in cream/ivory that I am wanting to sell. Thought I'd offer it to a serious collector before I put it up for sale on Craigslist, ebay or etsy.
In my searching, I see these are selling for a minor mint. I would take $80... and consider offers for mine. It seems to me to be in mint condition. No missing jewels, or damage of any kind that I could see. The bottom has a couple of light scratches but nothing that a little linseed oil or some Olde English polish couldn't handle.
Anyone interested can contact me at evath@yahoo.com Be sure to put Enid Collins/Fabulous Jewel Tone Peacock Bucket Bag in the subject line so that I don't inadvertently toss you in the trash.
All good things!
