Cut Velvet Evening Bag. 1960s. Maker: Unknown. Created in the style of Victorian handbags, this cut velvet bag, circa the ‘60s, is done in a raised leafy beige pattern on a dark brown background. It has an ornate goldtone closure and chain handles. I adore texture and this one is very fun to fondle. Does that make me a “pursevert?”

That all depends on where you fondle. If the fondling is done in the privacy of your own home, then it falls under the "whatever floats your boat" category. If, however, the handbag stroking takes place in public, in full view of children and the elderly, then you are indeed a major pursevert. Either way, I say let your freak flag fly, Sister.

Once, I was in a Goodwill and found a gray Persian lamb full-length coat with a mink collar for SEVEN DOLLARS. Before I took it to the register, I walked around the store in a daze, rubbing its curly fur and mumbling to myself. I think I'm more than a pursevert. I'm a vintagevert. I fly that Freak Flag with pride!
